Skills Classes

…because buying a great bicycle is sometimes not enough to have a great bike ride!

All of the Ride Center classes will be held outside, on your own bike.   The Bike School Meeting Place is right in front of the shop at the corner of Old Denver Highway and Second Street.  Call to sign up so that we can contact you if the class is cancelled for weather:   719-488-5761.

Our Beginner Mountain/Comfort Bike class is available at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and at 1 p.m. on  Thursday.  It may be the best money you have ever invested in training.  Learn (or review) the basics of starting in the right gear, using the brakes safely, dismounting, steering, climbing and descending.  We will ride on the Santa Fe Trail in gravel for about an hour.   $60/hour

Riding for Fitness and Weight Loss will be most helpful if you have taken the beginner class or you have experience riding bicycles.   Learn (or review) the best way to burn calories and build strength without over-doing it and ruining the rest of the day.   This class is scheduled for Monday evenings at 5:30 p.m., and will last about one hour.  We will ride on Old Denver Highway  or the Santa Fe Trail.  Learn to use your  heart monitor if you already have one.   $60/hour   488-5761

Road Riding for Triathletes helps athletes from other sports like running or swimming learn about working out with a bicycle.    If you only ride a mountain bike, rent a road bike from the Ride Center to learn why it is better for distance riding on pavement.  Learn to manage the gear choices, so that you get the most effective speed from a machine other than your own body.   Class is scheduled Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.  488-5761.    90 minutes/  $90

Mountain Bike Single Track Skills:   Starting at the Ride Center, this class will explore ways to improve your handling skills in tight turns, steep climbs, and even steeper descents.  You will learn the most if you have completed our beginner class or can ride for several hours at a stretch on groomed trails.  We will practice correct trail etiquette in the kinds of places where it is a matter of safety for all riders.   Expect an hour and a half of hard work in a beautiful place.   Saturday at 4:00 p.m. 488-5761  90 minutes/ $90

All participants in the skills classes are automatically enrolled in VeloNation, the Ride Center’s Cycling Club.
